Welcome to 2021 ARML! First practice today!

Hi everyone,

Welcome to ARML season! We're excited to have everyone join us this year for another fun spring of ARML practices and contests.

This year, the main event will be ARML on June 5. We will also participate in ARML Local on April 25, and we plan to participate in FARML in mid May as a practice scrimmage against other teams. We will have (approximately) weekly practices from today through ARML. These practices will occur on a mix of Saturday and Sundays, at a default time of 4pm-7pm Pacific time. All practices and competitions are online this year. See the practice website for the specific schedule.

Our plan for this year's practices is to hold 3-hour practices. Each practice will be broken down into around 3 modules of 60 minutes each, and we intend for most practices to have a mix of ARML content (e.g. team and relay rounds) and non-ARML content (e.g. talks, estimations, or other activities). As we did last year, we also intend to have a few different tracks to choose from depending on experience level. Our first practice is today (Saturday), April 10, 4pm-7pm Pacific time.

A note on technology for this year's practices: We will hold all practices on Zoom. Each practice will have a different Zoom link, and we will send out the Zoom links to our email list approximately 10 minutes before each practice. If you are not on our email list (for example, if someone forwarded this email to you), you can sign up for our email list by filling out the Information Sheet at http://mathleague.org/armljoin.php. We also plan to use Discord to facilitate some collaboration during practice, especially on the relay rounds. Please join our Discord server at https://discord.gg/XsqPrShvyR. (If you cannot access Discord, we will provide an alternative method of communication on Zoom.)

Regarding elite team selection: We are planning to select a few elite teams this year. This will be a rolling process, with a goal to have the teams set by our fourth practice on May 8. We plan to hold three tryouts for elite teams this year, on April 17, on April 25 (ARML Local), and on May 2. Tryout attendance is highly recommended (but not required) for elite team selection. Even if you are not intending to try out for an elite team, we still recommend coming to the tryouts as an extra opportunity to do some fun math. Please see the practice website for the logistical details.

Even though our practices start today, it's not too late to sign up for ARML! Please help us spread the word to your friends, school, or math club. Sign ups are still open at http://mathleague.org/armljoin.php

A few logistical announcements:
Please let us know if you have any questions. Looking forward to seeing everyone at practice later today!

Best,
Moor
