T-shirts and practice reminders

Dear all,

Thank you for participating in ARML Local yesterday!  We hope you all had a good time.  We will share the results of the competition with you as soon as we get them.  We'd like to extend a special thanks to the many proctors who volunteered their time and made it possible to field 25 teams across the SFBA/NorCal and Wild Wild West organizations.

As a reminder, there is no practice this weekend.  The final elite team tryout will be this Saturday, May 1st, from 4-5pm Pacific.  Regular practices will resume on Saturday, May 8th.

T-shirts

One of the great traditions of ARML is for teams to design matching t-shirts to wear on the day of the competition.  This year, you'll be wearing them from the comfort of your home, but we will still be designing, producing, and distributing team t-shirts.

Designs should consist of a front design and a back design.  To keep screen-printing costs low, you can use either (a) three colors on one side and one color on the other, or (b) two colors on each side.  It's best if your design can work with a variety of different background colors; we'll determine the color of the shirt they're printed on later.

When submitting your design, send an email to arml@mathleague.org with the following four files:

  • A .png file (.jpeg is okay in a pinch) of the front design, preferably superimposed on a t-shirt shape to show how it's positioned

  • A .png file of the back design (like the above)

  • A vector-graphics file (such as .tif or .svg) of the front design

  • A vector-graphics file of the back design

The .png files will be used on the ballot for voting on designs, while the vector-graphics files will be sent to the printer if your design is chosen.  Please note that websites such as CustomInk generally do not produce files of the needed quality and should not be used.  Inkscape is free vector-graphics design software that will work and has been used frequently in the past.

Designs should contain the name of the team (either "SFBA/NorCal" or "Bay Area/Northern California", or "Wild Wild West", as appropriate to your region).  You might also want to include "ARML", "2021", or other such things.  Please do not include anything offensive in the design; coaching staff reserve the right to censor or edit as necessary.  Do not use any clipart or other material to which you do not own the copyright.

The deadline to submit designs is noon Pacific Time on Monday, May 3rd. We will then take a vote for each region (separately for SFBA and Wild Wild West) on their preferred design. Please email arml@mathleague.org, as always, with any questions.

P.S. Some of you may not know me that well, and that's partly because I normally work mostly with arranging travel to Las Vegas, and it's been a couple of years since I got to do that! I'll be helping out with t-shirts this year, and also running sessions at some of the later practices. Looking forward to meeting you there!
