Practice and elite team tryouts this weekend; ARML Local next week!

Hi everyone,

It was great to see so many of you at practice last weekend. Our next practice will be on Sunday, April 18, 4pm-7pm Pacific time, with elite team tryouts during the preceding hour, 3pm-4pm Pacific time. (Please note the elite team tryout time has been updated from my previous email.) We hope to see everyone there!

Tryouts:

We will have our first elite team tryout this weekend. While tryout attendance is not required for elite team selection, it is highly recommended. Even if you are not intending to try out for an elite team, we still recommend coming to the tryouts as an extra opportunity to do some fun math. Further tryout opportunities will be available during ARML Local on Sunday April 25, and on Saturday May 1. (Note the schedule change from my email last week.) Please see the practice website for the logistical details.

Practice logistics:

Regarding technology for this year's practices: We will hold all practices on Zoom. Each practice will have a different Zoom link, and we will send out the Zoom links to our email list approximately 10 minutes before each practice. If you are not on our email list (for example, if someone forwarded this email to you), you can sign up for our email list by filling out the Information Sheet at http://mathleague.org/armljoin.php. We also plan to use Discord to facilitate some collaboration during practice, especially on the relay rounds. Please join our Discord server at https://discord.gg/XsqPrShvyR. (If you cannot access Discord, we will provide an alternative method of communication on Zoom.)

ARML Local:

We're participating in ARML Local on Sunday, April 25. This is an official ARML-style competition written by ARML. This practice is longer than usual in order to ensure that we have sufficient time to complete the contest, and we will also treat ARML Local as a tryout opportunity. Note: You do not need to join our team for June's ARML in order to compete in ARML Local. Even if you can't come to ARML this year, you're still welcome to come to ARML Local. No fees are required to participate in ARML Local with our team. Also feel free to invite any friends who might not be on this email list -- have them sign up at http://mathleague.org/armljoin.php. :)

Request for ARML Local proctors / volunteers:

(This is a request for any coaches or parents in the group; if you're still eligible to participate, this does not apply to you.)
We need proctors for ARML Local 2021.  It's on Sunday, April 25 from 2:30-7 PM Pacific (this includes a 1-hour proctor meeting before the contest starts at 3:30).  We'd really appreciate it if you can help proctor!
The signup form is here: https://forms.gle/vhEqmYL1TdmsveyH8
The ARML Local proctor manual is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TXK0aH_LosmgYAjKA6RLWzop2cK6QzE7RiZmNEWaMAg/
Basically, you'll just be watching the students take the tests. You'll also need to transcribe student answers into a Google Form. No math is required. Thanks in advance for your help!

Reminders and Links:

If you're planning to join us for the ARML competition on June 5, you'll need to pay for ARML. The instructions are at http://mathleague.org/armljoin.php. Payment is not required if you are only able to participate in ARML Local.

It's still not too late to sign up for ARML! Please help us spread the word to your friends, school, or math club. Sign ups are still open at http://mathleague.org/armljoin.php
