ARML Local this weekend!

Hi everyone,

We're participating in ARML Local on Sunday, April 25, 3:30-7:00pm Pacific time. Please note the earlier than usual start time. Just as for the practices, we will send out a Zoom link to this email list approximately 10 minutes before the contest begins.

This is an official ARML-style competition written by ARML. This practice is longer than usual in order to ensure that we have sufficient time to complete the contest, and we will also treat ARML Local as a tryout opportunity. Note: You do not need to join our team for June's ARML in order to compete in ARML Local. Even if you can't come to ARML this year, you're still welcome to come to ARML Local. No fees are required to participate in ARML Local with our team. Also feel free to invite any friends who might not be on this email list -- have them sign up at http://mathleague.org/armljoin.php

A few notes from the other coaches regarding ARML Local:

ARML Local requires that you have a webcam and microphone turned on for the duration of the competition. Please ensure that you have a working webcam before ARML Local. Ideally, you would participate from a desktop or laptop computer with a working webcam and microphone. If you do not have this technology available, we can make arrangements for you to participate using a tablet or phone; however, please get in touch with us ahead of time (ASAP) so that we can verify your technology and help you set it up in accordance with ARML Local's rules.

If students arrive at ARML Local with a team of exactly 6 pre-formed, we will do our best to keep those students together. We will give students a chance to submit pre-formed teams of 6 when they arrive; there is no need to submit them in advance, and submissions must come from one of the students on the team (not a parent or a student not on the team).  We will also be selecting several elite teams from our top students.  If a student from a pre-formed team is selected for an elite team, we will do our best to keep the remainder of the team together and fill in the holes with other students.

For any coaches or parents in the group, we need volunteers to be proctors for ARML Local 2021. We anticipate having a lot of teams this year, and those teams will only be able to participate if we have proctors for them! Proctors should be available on Sunday, April 25 from 2:30-7 PM Pacific (this includes a 1-hour proctor meeting before the contest starts at 3:30). We'd really appreciate it if you can help proctor!
The signup form is here: https://forms.gle/vhEqmYL1TdmsveyH8
The ARML Local proctor manual is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TXK0aH_LosmgYAjKA6RLWzop2cK6QzE7RiZmNEWaMAg/
Basically, you'll just be watching the students take the tests. You'll also need to transcribe student answers into a Google Form. No math is required. Thanks in advance for your help!

A few other logistical notes:

Our third and final tryout opportunity will be on May 1 (Saturday), 4pm-5pm Pacific time. There will be no practices that weekend; our following practice will be on Saturday, May 8. Information about practices, including a full practice and tryout schedule, is available at our practice website: https://math.berkeley.edu/~moorxu/2021ARML/Practice materials from last weekend's practice are now also available at the practice website, including content from the Beginner's Room and the activities (Number Sense, Integration Bee, etc).
